April Unit Meeting

Following a fellowship time hosted by the Lunch Bunch, Juanita Rampy called the April 4th, 2012, unit meeting of Jefferson City First United Methodist Church UMW to order.  Twenty four members were present.

 

President Juanita opened the meeting with prayer and Edith Noll led the purpose. Kathleen Ailor presented the devotion focusing on renewal of Christian discipleship.

 

June Glaser offered the “Response” mission moment—“We are stewards of the earth.”  Juanita lifted up missionaries listed in “Prayer Calendar.”  Louise Schreiber accompanied as Ann Toebben led the hymn singing.

 

Shelia Scott, Nancy Shank, Vera Rhea, Bev Hemeyer, Carol Harris, and Marilyn Graham presented a very informative program, “Joplin, After the Disaster.”

 

Business Meeting:

 

Secretary’s  and Treasurer’s Reports were submitted and approved.

Gail Wekenborg reported that an E-circle is being formed since interest was shown during the Women’s Recognition Sunday event. They are calling themselves E-lizabeth.

 

Dorothy Wagner reported that 145 women attended the Legislative Event.  Its theme was “Crying for Justice.” 

 

Janet Hofstetter, Program Resource Secretary, explained the new requirement for Reading Plans—to read books from each of 5 categories in 2012. She suggested several ways to do reporting.

 

Sign up sheets were circulated for the April 15th trip to visit Mokane United Methodist Church, the April 21st Brunswick Mid-State Meeting, and UMW workers for the July 26th Neighborhood Dinner. 

 

Ann Maxwell gave an update on the Mother’s Day Banquet plans.  The show choir from Jeff City High School will be performing.  Cost of tickets:  $10 for adults, $5 for children.  Tickets can be purchased at church the three Sundays before the banquet on May 11th. 

 

Dorothy Williams announced the Sophomore Pilgrimage will be April 10th.  She has enough helpers.  280-300 students will be at First Church for lunch that day.
