Minutes from Unit Meeting

September 1, 2010

 

The September Meeting of the United Methodist Women was called to order by President Juanita Rampy at 10:00 a.m. on September 1, in Room 107.  Twenty three members were present.

 

The opening included prayer, reading the UMW purpose, and singing “Jesu,” accompanied by Louise Schreiber.  Shirley Link presented a devotional.

 

President Juanita Rampy gave the Response minute, encouraging us to read Response Magazine.

 

Janet Hofstetter presented Reading Certificates for 2009 to the following:  Plan I—Carol Harris, Edith Noll, Doris Stout, and Juanita Rampy;  Plan II-- June Glaser;  Plan IV—Donna Hoskins and Janet Hofstetter.  She encouraged all members to make reports to qualify for the 2010 Certificates.

 

Vice President Pauline McElroy introduced the program speakers, Mary Zellman and Trish Beckman, representatives of Homemaker Health Care.  HHC is a United Way Organization that offers services that allow people to stay in their homes longer.  At the conclusion of the program, Pauline presented HHC with a check on behalf of the FUMC UMW.

 

Business Meeting

 

Juanita reported the list of positives and concerns for FUMC UMW that were generated at the August Fluff Your Pillows Retreat at Sheila Scott’s home. 

 

Minutes from June Meeting were approved.  Barb Ulmer gave the Treasurer’s report stating all bills have been paid.  Sheila Scott made a motion to give $200 to support the Ark Mission of the children.   Joyce Smith seconded and the group voted in favor.  The presentation of the check will take place during the Sunday school hour on September 12.

 

Gail Wekenborg, Mid-State District Vice President, announced registration for the Sept. 11th district meeting will begin at 9:30 a.m.  Cost is $6.  Brenda Stoneburner will present a program about Henderson Settlement and members were asked to bring packaged snacks to help with the after school program.  Janet Hofstetter gave members UPC lists and asked members to bring whatever they’ve collected to give to Brenda.  District Woman of the Year will be announced.  Juanita Rampy has been nominated.

 

Plans for the Sept. 24th and 25th Annual Conference were discussed.   Members were asked to volunteer for food preparation and serving.  FUMC UMW will help with registration.  Donations from the circle groups will be needed for the Yak and Snak time scheduled for Friday evening, 5-8 p.m.  

 

Clarice Shemwell and Barb Lamon announced that members will be asked to fill school bags, layettes, and health kits at the October Unit Meeting for the Festival of Sharing.  Supplies for 150 member-made bags have been purchased.  A collection was taken to buy supplies for more birthing kits.

 

Margaret Allen reported that Church Women United will meet November 5th.  Their goal is to get more churches involved.

 

Beverly Crain asked for volunteers to deliver meals.

 

Circle reports were given and the meeting was adjourned.  Ruth Circle provided drinks and desserts for a sack luncheon.
