UNITED METHODIST WOMEN FUMC

The February meeting of the United Methodist Women was called to order by President Juanita Rampy at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 3, in Room 107.  She led the group in reading the UMW purpose.  Shirley Link led the devotion and prayer.  Louise Schreiber accompanied as the group sang “Near To the Heart of God.” 

 

Pastor Chris Dumas led the Church Eternal Service, presenting 12 names for remembrance.  She noted that each person recognized had her own lovely song or story and beautiful harmony is created when all sing together.  Bells were rung to demonstrate individuality and harmony of lives.

 

Vice President Pauline McElroy presented “Call to Prayer and Self Denial.”  UMW has celebrated 138 years of mission work.  Good shepherds should consider maintenance of its buildings and expansion of facilities in the women’s division which includes mission projects for women, children, and youth locally, nationally, and internationally.  Property gives mission a form.  Carol Harris led prayer for mission, based on Isaiah 58:12.  Louise Schreiber gave information about Spofford Institute.  An offering was taken for Prayer and Self Denial.

 

Officer’s Reports

Vice President Pauline McElroy reported there will be no unit meeting in March because of the legislative event on March 2nd and 3rd.  Topic of the April meeting will be Epworth.

 

Treasurer Barb Ulmer gave the monthly report.  As of January 31, 2010, the balance is $2,660.02.  A motion was made, seconded, and passed to accept the report.

 

June Glaser moved, Clarice seconded that the delegate to the Legislative Event, Dorothy Wagner, have expenses for the event paid in full. The motion passed.

 

Secretary Joyce Smith reported that an article for UMW would be in the upcoming February newsletter.  Minutes of the December meeting were approved.

 

 

Kristen Hilty gave the membership report.  She plans to set up a UMW information table at the Chili Day Bazaar.

 

June Glaser shared a  Mission Moment from the UMW Magazine “Response” about the international branch of Mission.

 

Ann Maxwell asked for more volunteers and goodies for the Bazaar, Feb. 22.  She announced a quilt has been donated to the silent auction by Shirley Link, and an afghan has been donated by Jean James.  She requested that members make a special effort to invite people to come.

 

Janet Hofstetter challenged each member to read at least one book this year for the Reading Program to meet Plan V: Each One Read One.  She explained a quick way to get to the Web Page if more information about library offerings is needed.  She also reported that the new Mid State Library is located in her home.  Annotations for Books Eligible for the 2010 UMW Reading Program were available for all members. 

 

Edith Noll reported that FUMW unit will sponsor four attendees (3 youth and 1 adult) for the School of Missions, July 29-Aug. 1.  Contacts will be made to find those who would like to attend.

 

Gail Wekenborg reported that birthing kits are needed for the Mid-State District UMW Spring Meeting, April 10.  June Glaser moved to spend $20 to purchase articles for the birthing kits.  Shirley Link seconded the motion.  It was passed. Clarice Shemwell will be responsible for getting these items together to make a kit from FUMW unit.  Clarice also  announced the need for upholstery and drapery material to make Festival of Sharing Kits.

 

Circle News:

President Rampy announced that Marylin Durk will be putting FUMW information on the bulletin board by the elevator.  This month Lunch Bunch will be featured. 

 

Gail Wekenborg invited members to the Lunch Bunch meeting on March 10 to hear the missionary, Amy Wilson, give a program about work in Nicaragua.  RSVP needed for planning the meal.

 

 

Meeting closed with a prayer by President Rampy.  Lunch of Hobo Stew and Shipwreck and wonderful stories were provided by Gail Wekenborg. The Naomi Circle hosted, adding a special Valentines Day touch, heart shaped chocolates, cookies, and wonderful desserts.
