Television/Media Ministry

What is the Media Ministry?

The Media Ministry is a special and important part of worship and special events at First United Methodist Church. This ministry includes the elements of audio, video and visual images shown through computer and projection.

The team consists of dedicated volunteers who help with all aspects of media during worship services as well as on special occasions such as weddings, and funerals.

Most volunteers do not have a background in media. Hands-on training is regularly available.

What do the volunteers do?

Audio
  • Operate a 24 channel soundboard providing sound in the sanctuary at the 8:30 and 10:50a.m. services as well as special events.
  • Operate a 16 channel soundboard providing sound for the TV/video studio at the 8:30 and 10:50a.m. worship services as well as special events.
  • Operate a 24 channel soundboard providing sound in the Christian Life Center during the 9:45a.m. NOW service. This service has a Praise Band as well as other various audio needs each week.
  • Set up of microphones and hook-ups for electric instruments used in various services.

Video
  • Operate the computer program that allows different camera shots to be recorded (often referred to as the switcher.)
  • Control 2 to 4 cameras by joy-stick remote controls.
  • Back-up the services recorded on the DVD recorders.
  • Direct the camera operators on which shot to create next and communicate to the "switcher" which camera shots to use.

Computer/Projection Visual Effects
  • Operate the computer program called Media Shout which allows the computer and the projector to display images on large screens showing text announcements, videos, song lyrics and other elements of worship as needed.
  • Operate computers at the 8:30a.m. and 10:50a.m. worship services in the sanctuary as well as the 9:45a.m. NOW service held in the Christian Life Center.

New Volunteers are always welcome and hands-on training is regularly available.
