Join us in the Discovery Zone where children discover the stories of our faith!  Come to the 3rd floor, Discovery Zone Central at 9:45 a time of gathering and music and then off to classrooms at 9:55!

NEW THIS YEAR!

Each age group will have a set of goals that the lessons and day will be centered on.  Our hope is that each year will prepare each child for the next.

PreK:

• Jesus and God really exist
• Jesus loves me and God loves me
• I am special in God’s eyes

1st & 2nd:

• God and Jesus want a relationship with me
• Jesus is a great friend and will help us make good decisions
• Begin reading out of the Bible as reading skills increase and learning the Bible as a source of knowing about God and Jesus

3rd:

• The scriptures are an authority in our life
• Old and New Testaments
• Books of the Bible and their general content
• Learning the stories that the Bible contains tell us about God and Jesus

4th & 5th:

• Strengthening the faith they have gained
• Confidence in using that faith in their life. (I can say no to peer pressure because Jesus loves me.)
• Beginning to apply their faith to life situations.

6,7,8:

• Applying faith to current events and to their life
• Preparation to confirm their faith
• What is a United Methodist
• God in the insecure places in our life.

Parents are always welcome to attend and observe any of our children's ministries.

In the Summer Months:

Music, Art & Drama (MAD) Camp

Early in the Summer!  Children audition, rehearse and perform a musical program in just 4 days! For Children going in to 1st through 7th grades

$15/child   $30 per family max

Mid-High Mission Camp

Mid June. In partnership with First Presbyterian and Grace Episcopal Churches, our middle schoolers will spend each day learning about their neighbor, working in local mission and playing!  Thursday night is a sleep over at the camp to culminate the week.  Mission sites:  Salvation Army Lunch, Agape House room painting, Samaritan Center General Volunteer, Animal Shelter -walking dogs.  $50/camper

Vacation Bible School

Could be a week in Rome or maybe Egypt!  Evening sessions with Bible story, crafts, snacks, and games.  Children Pre-K through 5th grade

$15/child    $30/family max

 

Ecumenical Vacation Bible School

In partnership with First Presbyterian Church at their camp Covenant Point in Holts Summit. This is a Day Camp filled with music, storytelling, crafts and swimming!

For Children who will be in 1st through 5th grades

Cost is $50 per camper

 

Worship - Children

Babies and Toddlers

Nursery care is available for all children 3 years old and younger during all the Sunday morning worship services from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 Noon.

Located on the main level, second floor, on the south side of the Carson Building. In the nursery we use the Quiet Call Nursery Paging system. This system loans parents a vibrating pager which discretely lets them know if they are needed in the nursery. Pagers are returned when children are picked up.

Children's Church/Children's Moments

Children are welcome in any worship service! Children's packets are available at the entrance to each service filled with activities to keep little hands busy. You will also find Children's Moments every other Sunday during the service for children to come forward and hear a lesson just for them. On alternating Sundays, Children's Church is held in the Chapel. Children will be dismissed from the worship service after the prayer time in the 8:30 and 10:50 services. Children learn about the scripture of the day through storytelling, games and crafts. Children are returned to worship before Communion at 8:30 a.m.  At 10:50 a.m. children are picked up in the Chapel after the service is over.

Eight Flaming Fingers Puppet Ministry

5th grade through 12th grade

Puppeteers learn to perform the stories of our faith through characters and music. The Puppet Troup travels to perform in Nursing Homes and for children's groups. They also participate in competitions each year.
